Boscoville and AJOI are pleased to announce their partnership to deploy the Youth Action Project (LAP).
Pierrefond’s financial support from the city of Montreal has identified AJOI as a community leader in the implementation of the Youth Action Project for the past eighteen months.
Despite the appearance of very affluent communities, the West Island hides a reality whereby 17,525 young people between the ages of 0 to 34, live in socially and financially deprived areas.
The goal of the Boscoville and AOJI partership is to improve the living conditions of young people in the Cloverdale area of Pierrefonds East which is particularly affected by poverty.
Young people want to get involved and are often unsure how. This partnership will give them the necessary tools to begin. Youth Action Project offers young people opportunities for civic engagement through the monitoring or implementation of projects that have a positive impact in this community.
Civic engagement creates an opportunity for youth to learn how to become agents of change. When young people have the ability and opportunity to influence the decisions of a project, they feel a sense of involvement and belonging to their community. This also enables them to build valueable relationships with their peers and adults, learn new social skills, and use entrepreneurial qualities that will benefit all areas of their life.
Evidence has shown that allowing youth to be engaging members of a community also improves their health and academic success.
These newly acquired skills will help them make better and wiser decisions, adopt healthy behaviours and consequently take less harmful health risks.
Youth Action Project will prepare young people by providing them with confidence and valuable life skills to create their ideas and implement changes. Changes that will help ensure them a better future while having a positive impact on society as a whole!
*Youth Action Project is an initiative of Boscoville.
