The City of Pointe-Claire is proud to announce that the City will undertake major work on Cartier Avenue next year, adding a bicycle path that will be connected to the existing network and putting in street furniture and appropriate vegetation.

“These initiatives are part of the Pointe-Claire Village Special Planning Program,” says Mayor Trudeau. “One of the objectives of the SPP is to provide this sector with a two-way bicycle path to promote safe, active transportation.”

An initial intervention by Hydro-Québec this fall is an essential step that will enable the City to proceed with its upgrade work in 2017. From November 14 to 21, Hydro will carry out selective tree-cutting over a width of 4.5 metres for roughly 800 metres on Cartier Avenue, next to Beaconsfield Golf Club. This is to ensure there is an optimal safe clearance under the power lines.

The Cartier Avenue reconstruction work will include rebuilding the infrastructure and pavement, adding a bicycle path connected to the network along the shoreline, and improving the visual environment by putting in appropriate vegetation and street furniture.

“This is one of the first projects we are carrying out as part of the Special Planning Program for Pointe-Claire Village in order to improve Cartier Avenue, make it an attractive gateway to the Village, and promote safe, active transportation. Our vision for this area is based on the idea of protecting a living environment where people can live, work and play while preserving the Village’s appeal as a vibrant West Island destination,” concludes the mayor.
