In order to promote World Reflexology Week, some members from the Reflexology Association of Canada’s Montreal chapter, in conjunction with the International Council of Reflexologists (ICR), are offering reflexology specials to allow people everywhere to experience and get to know reflexology better.

Reflexology is one of the fastest growing therapies in North America today, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Often people will have heard of it, but think it is simply a foot massage for sore feet. In fact, Reflexology is a gentle non-invasive therapy, without adverse side effects. It is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands, and ears, which correspond to every part, gland, and organ of the body. When pressure is applied to specific reflex points, this helps relieve tension in related areas of the body.

During a reflexology session, your body goes into a state of ‘rest and repair’, as opposed to the ‘flight and fight’ mode people often find themselves in, thus activating their own ‘inner doctor’. Circulation of blood and lymph is increased helping the body get rid of waste and toxins. Clients often sleep better and feel energized. Many people with chronic pain and stress-related issues turn to reflexology for relief. It has numerous positive effects on a person’s overall wellbeing.

If you would like to try reflexology, be sure to find a certified Reflexologist and a member of a recognized association, such as the Reflexology Association of Canada (RAC). This professional association was founded in 1976 to ensure quality training and education.
