Ajla Tomljanović has expressed optimism ahead of the Australian Open, where she has secured a wildcard entry following a 2024 season disrupted by injury. Despite withdrawing from the Brisbane International and Hobart International due to a knee problem, the 31-year-old Australian believes she remains a formidable opponent, even as a wildcard facing potential tough early matches. “I’ve proven over the years that seeding doesn’t matter and slams are places where anything can happen from round one,” she stated, acknowledging that some opponents might prefer to avoid her in the initial rounds.

Tomljanović, who has reached the US Open quarterfinals and made impressive runs at Wimbledon, emphasizes her preparedness despite not having ideal preparation due to her recent knee issue. She was defeated by Ashlyn Krueger at the Adelaide International but remains upbeat about her performance. “I’m thrilled to be here. Even though my prep maybe wasn’t ideal, I still got to play Adelaide,” Tomljanović noted, adding that she feels good about the upcoming tournament in Melbourne.

While upcoming matches may present challenges, Tomljanović expresses confidence in her physical condition and potential. Despite never advancing beyond the second round at Melbourne Park in nine attempts, she maintains high ambitions. “I always do expect something of myself,” she remarked, balancing excitement and expectation as the tournament approaches.
