The incident involved a coal stacker at the Westshore Terminals, causing a temporary shutdown of operations at the facility and a nearby site operated by GCT Deltaport. The Delta fire department responded promptly to the emergency and managed to control the blaze. Authorities are currently maintaining a presence at the site to monitor the situation. Video footage posted online showed thick black smoke emanating from the facility, visible even from the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.
