West Island Deli, also known as WID, is a modern deli with traditional fare. Long time smoked meat connoisseur Abie Haim has teamed up with new Partners in opening a new venture in the Blue Haven shopping centre. Decor and food are both happening.
WID offers its customers only the best – the all natural no preservatives preparation reflects decades of experience and expertise in producing Montreal’s finest smoked meat. Meats are bathed in a house-mixed spice rub and cured for 12 days and then smoked to perfection.
“We eliminate the need for preservatives by curing the meat in our own spice rub mixture,” Abie told The West Island Blog in an interview. This process results in traditional Montreal style smoked meat made famous decades ago by Montreal institutions like Schwartz’s where Abie, and his father before him, worked for many years and honed their craft.
The menu is varied, my partner in crime, Janice ordered the club roll that she adored. I could not break tradition and ordered the smoked meat lunch special including fries, pickle and drink for under $15. For those who prefer a less meaty lunch I noticed a tuna melt go by that is worth a try.
Abie also pointed out that they are serving breakfast on the weekends now as well.
The decor is fun, comfortable and family friendly. There are four big screens perfectly placed to enjoy any game. I loved my booth which somehow goes with the smoked meat. You know what I mean?
West Island Deli is open seven days a week, eat in, take out or catering are all part of the service.
