Over the weekend, a 25-year-old man identified as Shayne Sussman was charged with multiple counts following a violent incident at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Summerlin, Nevada. Sussman faces three charges of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon or tear gas, four counts of battery with the use of a deadly weapon, and one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

Sussman was subsequently booked at the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in a local court on Tuesday, pending his physical condition.

The exact number of victims remains unclear. An initial report by Vital Vegas suggested that the stabbing victims included a security guard and a maintenance director, although this information had not been confirmed by the LVMPD or casino officials by Monday. Another report from Vital Vegas indicated that Sussman had been using drugs in a restroom at the casino and, after threatening guests, was ordered to leave, resulting in the stabbings. This sequence of events has yet to be officially confirmed.

Employees at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa were understandably shaken by the confrontation. In an internal memo cited by Las Vegas TV station KLAS, Red Rock Vice President and General Manager Scott Nelson praised the rapid response of the casino’s security team, stating, “We are grateful for the swift and decisive actions of our security team, which prevented a terrible incident from being much worse.”

Nelson emphasized that the safety and security of team members and guests are the highest priorities. He expressed well wishes for the injured employees and announced that counseling services would be available for any staff needing support. Counselors from the Employee Assistance Program were made available in the Red Rock training room, and employees were encouraged to utilize these resources.

In his memo, Nelson acknowledged the potential psychological impact of the incident on employees, stating, “We recognize that such a traumatic incident may create concerns of wellbeing and some of our team members may need support on processing the event.” He urged employees not to hesitate in seeking assistance from their managers or Human Resources with any questions or concerns.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this shocking event, the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa continues to focus on the safety and wellbeing of its employees and guests.
