Violent Assault Shakes Timmins: Three Injured, Two Detained, One Suspect at Large

In the early hours of a recent Friday, the tranquility of downtown Timmins was shattered as three men fell victim to a violent assault. The Timmins Police Service (TPS) verified the incident, which occurred around 2:15 a.m. outside the erstwhile location of the Tweed and Hickory store on Third Avenue.

Alarmingly, the assault appears to have been enacted randomly. “The disturbing unpredictability of this attack is particularly worrying,” commented Marc Depatie, the communications coordinator for TPS. He went on to express that while the alleged attackers are known to each other, their connection to the victims seems fleeting at best.

In the aftermath of the incident, police detained two local men in their early twenties. The accused remain in custody, awaiting a bail hearing. An arrest warrant is currently in motion for a third suspect implicated in the case.

In a separate incident that occurred in the small hours of Sunday morning at a residence on MacLean Drive, a verbal spat among acquaintances spiraled into physical violence. A 17-year-old delinquent allegedly assaulted a 41-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl. Following the incident, both victims received necessary medical attention at a hospital.

The adolescent offender was promptly arrested, and now faces several assault charges. His court appearance is scheduled in November. It should be noted that, as of this moment, the court has yet to substantiate any of these charges.

As these events continue to unfold in Timmins, residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly to the authorities. It falls on us all to ensure that our community remains a secure and peaceful place to live.
