The gala took off with the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence (VSPCR) team entering to the disco beat of “We Are Family”, showcasing the solidarity and family spirit that permeates at the Residence. The Interim Executive Director, Jacinthe Demers, announced that the VSPCR welcomed its thousandth patient in January. “This demonstrates, without a doubt, that the Residence is more and more known and recognized in the region and by our partners. We hope to continue to offer leadership in end-of-life care offered here in the community,” she said.

THREE TOUCHING TRIBUTES

The Foundation also seized the moment to highlight the exceptional contribution and immeasurable dedication of Monique Bourbonnais, Jean St-Pierre and Jean-Marie Bourassa, three retired board members, who were given the honorary title of “Lifelong Ambassador”.

A MOBILIZED AND GENEROUS COMMUNITY

The gala was accented with several announcements that demonstrated Vaudreuil-Soulanges stands behind the Foundation and wishes to ensure the Residence can pursue its mission.

§  Over $2,385 donated by Giant Tiger Île Perrot;

§  A $2,500 $ donation by Mouvement Desjardins;

§  A joint cheque of $5,000 by the regional St-Hubert rotisseries; and

§  Two large commitments announced including $25,000 over five years by Groupe Maurice and $75,000 over three years by the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Guests were also extremely generous. Jean-Marie Bourassa and Sylvain Ménard together gave a $50,000 donation. Michel Bolduc, Gilbert Théoret, Raymond Allard, Stéphane Bouchard and Bernard Lefebvre together gave a $25,000 donation. The live auction items found several bidders especially the one offered by a special guest from the sports field. Jacques Martin, assistant coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Jean-Marie Bourassa offered a unique package which included four tickets to a game in Pittsburgh, private access to a training session with the Penguins, signed jerseys by none other than Sidney Crosby, as well as flights and accommodations.

A video which captured six testimonials of families who have benefitted from the end-of-life care provided at the Residence in the past and some who are currently under the Residence’s care, visibly touched guests. The presentation was all the more emotional with a live harpist who is also a volunteer at the Residence.  Over fifty ambassadors stood to pledge over $60,000 to support the Foundation.

It was without a doubt an emotional evening filled with generosity. The Foundation awaits you all in 2018 for an equally splendid evening under the honorary chairmanship of Isabelle Salvas from Promutuel Insurance Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
