In a decisive match, Connor Hellebuyck delivered an exceptional performance, stopping all 22 shots as the Winnipeg Jets shut out the Nashville Predators 3-0 in their final home game of 2024. Initially, the game saw both teams scoreless in the first period, with nine attempts each at the goal and unsuccessful power plays.
Gabriel Vilardi narrowly missed scoring for the Jets while on a power play in the second period. Winnipeg, persistent in their efforts, eventually broke through with less than three minutes left in the second period. A turnover by Nashville was capitalized upon by Dylan DeMelo, who scored with a high shot over goaltender Juuse Saros, marking his first goal of the season.
Entering the third period, the Predators nearly equaled the score, but Winnipeg’s resilience on the penalty kill, combined with a stellar save against Mark Scheifele, maintained their lead. Penalty trouble for Nashville’s Jeremy Lauzon provided Winnipeg another power play opportunity. Vilardi took advantage, scoring twice in quick succession during a 5-on-3 power play to secure the Jets’ victory.
This win propelled the Jets to the top of the NHL standings with 55 points in 38 games. Winnipeg is set to face the Colorado Avalanche next in Denver.
