Unsolved Mystery: What Really Happened on Central Boulevard That Left a Man Forever Changed?

Police report that a man in his 30s has sustained life-altering injuries after being struck by a transit bus near Metrotown, a bustling area in Burnaby. The incident occurred on Central Boulevard just before 2 p.m. on Thursday. The bus was seen halted mid-way through a left turn after exiting the Metrotown bus loop, a crucial transit hub near one of the region’s busiest SkyTrain stations.

The injured man was quickly transported to the hospital as Metro Vancouver Transit Police commenced an investigation into the incident. This section of Central Boulevard is a critical corridor, separating the Metrotown Mall and bus loop from the adjacent SkyTrain station.

Concerns regarding the pedestrian safety of this crossing have been ongoing. In November, Metrotown Mall’s head of security urged city officials to enhance safety measures at the intersection, warning of the potential for serious accidents. An elevated pedestrian walkway once provided safe passage over the road but has remained disconnected since 2016 due to TransLink’s upgrades at the station, increasing the dangers faced by pedestrians navigating this busy transit area.
