A tragic incident in East Vancouver has resulted in the death of an 85-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle earlier this month. The collision occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. on December 15 at the intersection of Broadway and Victoria Drive. The elderly man was attempting to cross Victoria on the north side of Broadway when he was hit by a 2001 Toyota Sienna driven by an 83-year-old woman.
Initially, the injuries sustained by the pedestrian did not appear to be life-threatening; however, he later succumbed to them in the hospital. Vancouver police are now seeking witnesses to the incident and have issued a request for anyone with video footage from the intersection between 4:40 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the day of the collision to come forward. According to Sgt. Steve Addison, the driver did stop momentarily at the scene but left soon after, though authorities have since identified the individual. Any potential witnesses are encouraged to contact Vancouver police at 604-717-3012.
