Sentient has achieved a milestone in the crypto world by completing a record non-fungible token (NFT) minting event. The campaign attracted over 650,000 participants who now hold fractional ownership of Sentient’s decentralized AI model, Dobby. This minting event, one of the largest in history, required participants to verify their humanity through a randomized IQ test to gain ownership rights.
Dobby represents a decentralized and open-source artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is community-controlled and owned. This approach aims to resolve key issues in the AI landscape by ensuring that AI loyalty resides with the community, rather than being monopolized by large institutions. Sandeep Nailwal, a core contributor from Sentient, emphasized the importance of community involvement in enforcing ownership, control, and model alignment. This decentralized structure allows communities to set values and control model behaviors, ensuring a collective governance of AI development.
The success of this NFT minting follows the release of DeepSeek, a chatbot with an investment considerably lower than OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Previously, the largest NFT mint was conducted by Yuga Labs with the sale of Otherdeed, but the number of participants in that event was less clear. The Dobby project represents a significant step in decentralizing AI technology and enhancing community involvement in its development.
