Quinton Byfield delivered a remarkable performance, scoring twice to secure a 4-3 overtime victory for the Los Angeles Kings against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. With just 1:41 left in the extra period, Byfield’s precise wrist shot from the right circle clinched the first of four regular-season meetings with Edmonton, who had ousted the Kings from the playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
The Kings enjoyed significant contributions from Warren Foegele, with a goal and two assists, and Tanner Jeannot, who scored as well. Darcy Kuemper was key between the posts, making 24 saves as the Kings celebrated their sixth straight home win.
Edmonton’s effort included a power-play goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, alongside tallies from Kasperi Kapanen and Viktor Arvidsson. However, their three-game winning streak ended despite 24 saves from Stuart Skinner.
The Kings restructured during the off-season, adding players like Foegele and Jeannot to enhance their physical play, particularly in matchups against Edmonton. This strategy seemed fruitful as the new duo combined for seven points in the game.
The Oilers now prepare to face Anaheim Sunday, while the Kings take on Philadelphia, looking to build on this key victory in a tightly contested league.
