Notably, in 2024, companies like Bitfarms, Hut 8, and Hive Digital enhanced their mining operations to sustain profitability amidst a lower BTC block reward following Bitcoin’s scheduled halving. These efforts coincided with Bitcoin surpassing the $100,000 mark for the first time in history.

As the Bitcoin blockchain expands—now measuring 627 gigabytes—concerns over storage and synchronization for full nodes have intensified. In response, developers have proposed solutions such as pruning nodes to retain essential transaction data, compressing blockchain data, implementing offchain transactions, and conducting periodic snapshots. These strategies, though beneficial, involve trade-offs related to security, decentralization, and complexity. Continuous research and community consensus remain vital to addressing these challenges effectively.
