Two-Year-Old Resident of Bas-St-Laurent Hospitalized for Coronavirus Related Health Complications

A two-year-old resident of Bas-St-Laurent is under hospital admission after developing COVID-19 related health complications, the regional public health said.

Health officials were not specific about the nature of the complication the child developed or even whether hospitalization was a preventive measure.

In the past, children have had mild instances of complications relating to the virus. In Quebec, children aged between 0 and 9 years have had a hospital admission for COVID-19, the Nation Institute of public health.

About 148 were hospitalized without needing intensive care, while another 24 were in intensive care.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 23607 children in the same age range have been found with the province’s virus, making up 7.8 percent of all reported cases. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities in this age range.

Last Tuesday, Bas-St-Laurent registered 30 new unconfirmed infections of variant cases. A school and 750 students have gone into isolation due to an outbreak in several learning institutions.
