Twitch Suspends Streamer Frogan for Derogatory Comments About US Military

A partnered streamer on Twitch has been suspended by the live-streaming platform for making derogatory comments about members of the US military. The Twitch user, known as Frogan, was banned for 30 days after a recent live stream in which she expressed intense disdain towards US soldiers and wished harm upon them.

In the incident, Frogan, believed to be named Morgan, was seen eating and drinking iced tea while delivering an expletive-filled rant. She stated she had no sympathy for US soldiers, wished they would either die or suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and expressed a desire that they receive no health insurance when they return to America. Remarkably, during this tirade, some fans continued to send her money.

Frogan resides in Dearborn, Michigan—a city known for having the highest Middle Eastern population in the United States. She is the daughter of a Lebanese father and a white mother and identifies as Muslim, according to Fandom. Earlier today, she used X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a screenshot of Twitch’s explanation for her suspension. The platform stated that her comments constituted “targeted hateful conduct.”

Following her suspension, Frogan issued a lukewarm apology on Sunday via Twitter, expressing regret for her choice of words in the video clip. However, she also criticized the US military for what she described as horrific crimes against humanity in countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. She framed her anger as being directed at individuals who she believes are perpetuating these war crimes. Comments on her post were disabled.

It is worth noting that the US military has not engaged in official operations in Lebanon for the past four decades, and although the US has supplied weaponry to Israel, it has not stationed troops in Palestine. A decade ago, the US intervened in the Syrian civil conflict under the pretext of combating the ISIS terrorist organization and continues to support Syrian rebels opposing both ISIS and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Frogan also managed to stir controversy with a separate post on X from downtown Las Vegas, exclaiming, “GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!” This message attracted a range of negative responses, with some users criticizing her weight, suggesting she leave the country, and referencing her Twitch suspension. Her X account indicates that she was in Las Vegas to attend a concert.

Twitch, a subsidiary of Amazon, is primarily a platform for gamers and bettors to showcase their skills and generate interest in the gaming companies that sponsor them. The incident with Frogan has sparked significant backlash, drawing attention to the platform’s policies on hateful conduct.
