Meet your neighbour
by Rhonda Massad
Jamie Mariani is 24 years and started her own baking business eight years ago. West Island Blog caught up with Jamie at one of several fundraising events she participates in to raise funds for her cousin Sammy, who was born with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord.

“I always help out when my family puts on a Valentine’s Gala fundraiser for SMA,” Jamie explained. “This year I wanted to take it up a notch so I organizeda holiday fair, with my friend and Youniqe product partner Brittany Zakrzewski at Espace Beaconsfield.”
There were 11 local West Island vendors all donating a raffle prize.
“Whether it was a cake, a mug or holiday item,” she continued, “every raffle ticket gives participants a chance to win something very nice.”
Jamie’s mother is also an entrepreneur selling promotional gift items at the fair.
“It runs in the family, but Jamie is a force to be reconded with,” Miriam Mariani stated. “I am very proud of my daughter for all she has accomplished in her young life. She also sells Younique cosmetics. She keeps me moving that is for sure.”
In the past year, Jamie has taken her baking business, Mariani Delights, to new levels with a full catering service. The business focuses on corporate and family style events up to 1,000 people.
