Several individuals sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 1, north of Mangaweka. The incident occurred near the Ruahine Road intersection, and police were notified at approximately 12:42 pm.
Due to the crash, State Highway 1 between Waiouru and Bulls has been closed to both southbound and northbound traffic. Detours are in effect via State Highway 4 and 49, which are expected to extend travel times by around two and a half hours. The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the scene.
Emergency services, including two ambulances, a first response unit, two helicopters, and an operations manager from Hato Hone St John, attended the incident. Two individuals, with one in critical condition and another in serious condition, were flown to Wellington Regional Hospital. Another person, who sustained moderate injuries, was transported to Palmerston North Hospital by road.
