The evacuation order for Hay River, Northwest Territories residents in Vale Island and West Channel has been revoked, as per the area’s director of emergency services in a press release Monday evening.
Whereas all levels in the watershed are high, Ross Potter wrote, local water levels have dropped and there’s “good flow” through the West Channel. Potter claims residents are now free to go back home.
The order was initially issued on Friday.
Potter says the East Channel is still jammed up and there’s no chance of the water rising and breaking the banks in the old town area.
The town will continue to monitor the situation till both channels are flowing freely to the lake, Potter said.
