Constable Jeffrey Northrup was intentionally struck by a vehicle in the parking garage located underneath Toronto’s City Hall. Northup was responding to a call on Friday when the killer drove the vehicle right into the constable. Northrup’s partner was injured by the driver but later recovered. At the time of the incident, two police officers wore plainclothes and identifications.
To pay respects to their fallen comrade, Toronto police officers have gathered at a funeral home in Richmond Hill on Sunday. The Toronto Police Service’s Motor Squad and members of the 52 Division escorted Northup’s body to Kane-Jarrett Funeral Home.
Constable Jeffrey Northup was a member of the Toronto Police Service for 31 years. He was transferred to 52 Division relatively recently. The 55-year-old Northup is survived by his wife and three children.
The 31-year-old who was connected to the incident has been charged with first-degree murder. The suspect, Umar Zameer, is expected to appear in court in late July.
