Despite participating in a team skate session, Matthews will not play in Thursday’s match against the New York Islanders. This marks the sixth consecutive game Matthews will miss after being placed on injured reserve earlier this week. While expressing frustration at being sidelined, Matthews remains optimistic about his recovery progress. Head coach Craig Berube has not provided a timeline for Matthews’ return. Last season, Matthews secured the Rocket Richard Trophy with 69 goals. So far this season, he has contributed 11 goals and 12 assists in 24 games.
