
In a shocking turn of events, a man aged 54 is facing a raft of charges, including sexual assault, forcible confinement, and a host of additional offenses related to a distressing ordeal that lasted a month, of which a woman from Timmins was the victim.
The Timmins Police Service divulged on Tuesday that the woman had been subject to an extended series of tragic incidents that spanned the past month.
The police were alerted by a call detailing that a woman, aged 39, was imprisoned and physically abused by a man in a succession of violent skirmishes.
Unveiling the in-depth details during their investigation, the police discovered that the accused had on multiple instances held the woman captive. He would resort to assaulting her in the event of her attempts to break free, they explained.
Adding chilling details, the police mentioned that the accused at a point even incapacitated the woman’s cellphone, thereby preventing her from reaching out and communicating with others.
Through their diligent efforts, the police managed to identify and locate the male suspect who was subsequently apprehended on Monday evening. The accused is shouldering a slew of charges consisting of one count of sexual assault, multiple counts of aggravated assault, forcible confinement, making threats, and possession of weapons.
The suspect also faces an additional 24 counts of non-compliance with probation orders.
Presently, the accused remains in police custody, awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.
