Today’s groundbreaking ceremony  marked the beginning of
work on a third synthetic field in Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Mayor Jim Beis was accompanied
by members of the Borough Council, representatives of the Pierrefonds School
Board and High School, the Pierrefonds Soccer Club, the Football Association and
the Borough’s municipal services.

The project is made possible through a partnership agreement signed with the
Lester B. Pearson School Board, owner of the field on which the first synthetic
soccer field was installed in 2017, and where the next one will be built in the George
Springate Sports Centre. The centre is located behind Pierrefonds Comprehensive
High School.

“We are very proud of our partnership agreement with the school board, which
allows us to improve the sports infrastructure service offer for the residents of
Pierrefonds-Roxboro. The development of these lots will allow more young people
to use the facilities over a longer season thanks to the synthetic surface that allows
for uninterrupted use from early spring to late fall,” said Mayor Beis.

“The Lester B. Pearson School Board community is proud of this fruitful partnership
with Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Investing in our infrastructure and territory allows our
students to reach their educational and social potential; while instilling a strong
sense of community.” said Noel Burke, Chairman of the School Board.
More than 2000 young people play soccer and football in Pierrefonds-Roxboro.
Local soccer and football associations and students from the school board’s schools
will be able to play their favourite sports next year.

Beyond the synthetic surface, the development will include a new athletics track and
a long jump track. The audience capacity will be increased to more than 1000
people and a press gallery with sound system will be added.
The total cost of the work is $5.2 million, including taxes, incidental costs and
contingencies. The contract was awarded to the lowest bidder, NMP Golf
Construction Inc. Work will begin on Monday, October 1, 2018, with an opening
scheduled for August 2019.
