Two persons from Winnipeg, a man and a woman who are facing several charges, have appeared in Regina Court. These two persons are also charged with manslaughter since they have been involved in the recent death of a Saskatchewan RCMP officer.
Alphonse Stanley Traverse, 41, and Marlene Velma Louise Pagee, 42, are charged with manslaughter, failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property over $5,000. Pagee is also charged with possession of methamphetamine. The two persons from Winnipeg appeared in Regina Provincial Court Monday morning.
RCMP Const. Shelby Patton, who was killed on duty on Saturday, was following the stolen truck driven by two criminals. According to eyewitnesses, these two people got into a vehicle and tried to leave as the officer was telling them to stop with his gun out. Then the vehicle hit the constable.
Eyewitness Frederick Runns saw everything from his apartment:
“They hit him and dragged him. That was something that you don’t want to see.”
“The officer’s vehicle was still running, lights still on,” said Runns’ wife, Regan O’Watch. “The body was at the end of the street.”
Runns said the officer was dragged for about 20 metres. He said that he never saw anything like that, especially in a small town where everyone is friendly.
RCMP say Patton’s family informed them Sunday night of a fraudulent GoFundMe page that stated it was created in the name of Patton.
