With rumors spreading like wildfire, everyone seems to be asking the same question – is the beloved former workplace comedy, Dunder Mifflin set to make a monumental comeback or not?
The curiosity isn’t without just cause. After all, Greg Daniels, the esteemed co-creator and showrunner of the U.S. version of “The Office,” acknowledges the intense fan interest directed towards a potential reboot of this fan-favorite sitcom.
Daniels recently offered his insights about the subject during an interview for Prime Video’s “Upload,” where this topic inevitably surfaced.
“It’s very speculative,” confessed Daniels. He was amused by the volatile reaction that erupted from a single line about a potential reboot in a Puck piece, as it demonstrated the undying admiration of the fans. However, he calmly stated, “when there’s something to announce, I will indeed make an announcement.”
Daniels affirmed that there had been preliminary discussions with NBC – the television network that had been the series’ home from 2005 to 2013. It raises an intriguing possibility, yet not a solid confirmation.
In the past, Daniels has speculated that a future visit to “The Office” would likely divagate from the traditional reboot approach. It may gravitate towards something more along the lines of a spinoff.
“I don’t believe we would reintroduce the same characters. It would probably be akin to an extension of the existing universe,” he specified. Comparing his concept to the way [The] ‘Mandalorian’ extends ‘Star Wars,’ he expressed his uncertainties, “But whether this would resonate with the audience or not, it’s challenging to gauge.”
Meanwhile, we, along with the millions of fans worldwide, will patiently wait for further official updates, ready to rush in from the break room at the first hint of news.
