The Mysterious Rise of 2MoPaul: How One Man’s Web Nostalgia Became a Global Phenomenon

12

For more than two decades, Paul Goyetche, known locally as 2MoPaul, has been the singular force behind an English-language news platform serving the anglophone community of Deux-Montagnes, Quebec. As the provincial government continues to emphasize French language use, channels for English speakers have dwindled, making Goyetche’s efforts even more critical.

Originally conceived as a personal journal, 2MoPaul.com has transformed into an indispensable source of local news and information, especially as other English publications have faded. The platform retains its initial web design, reminiscent of the early internet era, but its impact on the community has only grown. Without official bilingual status, Deux-Montagnes’ city site cannot post in English, further highlighting the importance of Goyetche’s work. Despite the lack of financial compensation for his up to 20 weekly volunteer hours, Goyetche’s dedication remains unwavering. His contributions include local event coverage, obituaries, and even establishing a scholarship with funds gifted by appreciative community members.

Mayor Denis Martin praises his commitment and the timely updates he provides, such as coverage on local sports and infrastructure projects like the REM light rail network. Goyetche’s efforts have gained global strange attention, exemplified by a viral YouTube video of the local Santa Claus parade, which inexplicably garnered millions of views internationally.

His role extends beyond mere news coverage; he forms a vital connection for both current residents and expatriates yearning for updates from their hometown. Supported by his proud wife, Myrna, Goyetche continues to be a beloved local figure, leveraging his platform purely out of love for his community.
