A study published in PLOS One in July 2024 identified this pattern, revealing that while base models are politically neutral, biases emerge after supervised fine-tuning. This aligns with further research showing a 3.9% shift in voting preferences towards Democrat nominees after voters engaged with these AI models, despite no explicit persuasion prompt.

David Rozado, an academic at Otago Polytechnic, demonstrated the relative ease of tuning AI to produce right-wing outputs, highlighting the flexibility of AI’s political bent and the risks of bias manipulation.

The cyberpunk movement, connected to figures like Bitcoin advocate Erik Voorhees, points to the dangers of corporate AI control akin to historical surveillance state concerns.
