A new record was set at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale as a filly by first-time sire Home Affairs and out of the esteemed race mare Sunlight was sold for a staggering $3.2 million. This sale came just a day after a previous record of $2.8 million was established. Notable Japanese trainer Mitsu Nakauchida secured the highly sought-after filly amid intense competition from international bidders. Nakauchida expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, acknowledging the filly’s flawless pedigree and expressing hope that she will prove a valuable racehorse in Japan.

The filly, presented by Coolmore Stud in Hunter Valley, was a pivotal moment for their team, which had high expectations after acquiring Sunlight as a broodmare in 2020. Coolmore’s Tom Magnier described the sale as a dream fulfilled for the team, noting that the filly was a major point of interest throughout the sale week.

Previously, Sunlight’s two colts sold for $1.4 million each, marking the continued success of this bloodline. In recent years, Nakauchida has enjoyed success with Australian bloodlines and is optimistic that the filly will thrive under his training.

This record-breaking sale eclipsed the previous day’s record set by a Snitzel colt out of Humma Humma, highlighting the global interest and competition at the event. Barry Bowditch, Magic Millions Managing Director, remarked on the impressive participation of international bidders and praised the pedigree combination of Home Affairs and Sunlight.

The sale underscored the Hunter Valley’s reputation as a breeding epicenter in Australia, contributing significantly to the event’s success. The Magic Millions Yearling Sale’s Book One section grossed over $205 million with an 81% clearance rate, with more lots available as the sale continues.
