A teenage boy sustained serious injuries after being struck by a minivan on Monday afternoon in Ottawa. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. at the frequently bustling crossroads of Merivale Road and Viewmount Drive, directly outside Merivale High School.

The teen victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Although deemed serious, his injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening by attending Ottawa paramedics, who also confirmed that the teen’s condition was stable.

Following the incident, Knoxdale-Merivale Councilor, Sean Devine, intends to address the matter with the school staff directly. He commented on the hazardous nature of the intersection in question, highlighting its heavy use by hundreds of students on a daily basis.

The incident underscores the prevalent safety concerns at this bustling intersection, serving as a reminder for local authorities to review infrastructural provisions to increase safety, particularly during peak school hours.
