Teen Faces Manslaughter Charge in Scooter Assault Tragedy in Shippagan

A teenager of sixteen years is facing serious charges of manslaughter, linked to the tragic death of an eleven-year-old child in Shippagan, N.B. in the prior year.

On November 3, 2022, authorities from the Lamèque RCMP division were alerted to an alleged assault involving a weapon at a residential location in Shippagan. Once the officers reached the site of the reported crime, it was revealed that a young boy, aged eleven, had been hit in the face with a kick scooter by another teen, aged fifteen at the time.


The victim, an eleven-year-old child, was promptly rushed to a local hospital. Upon examination, his wounds were identified as severe and potentially fatal. Two days later, on November 5, the boy tragically succumbed to his injuries within the same hospital confines.

The following day, the law enforcement arrested the fifteen-year-old alleged perpetrator as part of the ongoing criminal investigation. It is anticipated that he will present himself before a court on October 26.

With the intention of uncovering further details and understanding the complete picture of the crime, the New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit is actively continuing the investigation.
