Tragedy struck a peaceful home in Tasmanian’s Allens Rivulet when a man lost his life, attacked by his own canine companion. The grim late-night incident, taking place around 10.40PM on Sunday, precipitated a swift response from police and emergency services.
The victim, aged 66, sustained severe injuries to his lower limbs as a result of the harrowing assault. The seriousness of his wounds led to his immediate demise at the very scene of the attack, marking a somber note on an otherwise quiet night.
Similarly, a woman in her mid-sixties, caught up in the chaotic incident, was gravely injured, her lower body bearing the brunt of the onslaught. In critical condition, she was hastily transported to Royal Hobart Hospital where she is currently receiving medical care.
Inspector Colin Riley, visibly moved by the incident, offered his condolences to the bereaved, stating, “Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time”.
The noted canine, having played a central, albeit distressing part in the incident, was euthanised on site by an official from the local council’s animal management. This painful decision speaks volumes of the gravity of the incident that led to a man losing his life to his own pet in his own home.
