In Sydney’s heartland, a young prospect in the Wests Tigers junior ranks has been indicted with the murder case of a reputed underworld presence, Dejan Radulvoic, infamously known to many as “Danny the Serb”. The fatal incident transpired in the Balmain region late July this year.

Radulvoic, 29, was discovered in a grave condition, inflicted with serious head and torso injuries post an alleged assault. He was attended to by paramedics in situ before an emergency evacuation to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. However, his wounds proved fatal, and he succumbed shortly after arrival.

Identified as the prime suspect following a vast investigative operation, law enforcing agencies apprehended a 19-year-old individual, Masei Tavui, in Austral. Tavui, an athlete in the under 19 competition last year, has reportedly been a part of the West Tigers junior setup for the past four years. However, he is said to be not under contract with the club for 2024. His younger sibling also allegedly forms part of the club’s development sides.

Following his arrest, Tavui was formally charged with murder. He was then redirected into remand, scheduled to make an appearance at the Liverpool Local Court. The accused did not seek bail, which ensures his continued incarceration on remand until his subsequent court appearance, scheduled for December.

Authorities speculate Radulvoic’s injuries stemmed from an altercation with two men, who supposedly absconded from the crime scene in a white Jeep. The vehicle was eventually discovered burnt out in Preston Avenue at Five Dock. Interestingly, a firearm was also recovered from the Jeep.

Upon a thorough post mortem examination, it was concluded that Radulvoic had endured gunshot injuries, prompting homicide detectives to delve deeper into the murder probe. Legal proceedings against another individual, believed to be an accomplice, are currently underway. This revelation warrants an ongoing investigation into the matter.
