The West Island – A quaint, serene, suburbia …. with a thriving music scene?
Montreal is a cultural mecca known for it’s booming indie music scene, but in 2016 a handful of artists from
the West Island of Montreal, including BAYLA (Bell Emerging Artist of the Month), Stefanie
Parnell (La Voix) and Brittany Kennell (The Voice), created a buzz in the Canadian music
industry. In today’s music industry there’s so much new music to discover and West Islanders
are in for a treat with the Summer Breeze: Acoustic Music Concert Series.
Hosted by Overture with the Arts (OWTA), a West Island based non-profit organization providing
free performing arts workshops to marginalized youth, the 4th edition of the Summer Breeze:
Acoustic Music Concert Series will introduce audiences to a variety of up and coming local
artists. With a goal of showcasing emerging musicians, while raising funds for OWTA, the
concert series appeals to all music lovers with a diverse lineup of pop, rock, folk and R&B, acts.
Sponsored by 94.7 Hits FM guests will enjoy 8 free shows at Starbucks in Chapters Pointe-
Claire on Friday evenings in July and August. Shows start at 7:30PM and all ages are welcome.
To kick off the concert series on July 8 OWTA is also hosting an in-store fundraiser and the 94.7
Hits FM street team will be on-site with giveaways. From 4:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. 10% of all of
Chapters Pointe-Claire’s sales will be donated to OWTA.
There’s also a fantastic gift basket from their donors (Starbucks, Teavana and Hits FM) to raffle
off at each show.
BAYLA, Stefanie Parnell and Brittany Kennell have all performed at OWTA’s Summer Breeze:
Acoustic Music Concert Series. Come out and discover new talent while supporting a local
organization.
