Newlyweds from Starbuck, Manitoba are beginning their new life together with a multi-million-dollar nest egg thanks to a significant lottery win. Hannah Matthews and Ben Gaboury, who recently tied the knot, struck it rich with a $3 million win on a Scratch & Win ticket. The ticket was purchased at a gas station in Oak Bluff while the couple was en route to Winnipeg.

“My wife checked it with her phone app. She probably checked it like ten times,” Gaboury recounted in a news release. “We just couldn’t believe it.” Skeptical of their good fortune, the couple pulled over to verify that they had indeed won a multi-million-dollar prize.

Married for less than a year, Matthews and Gaboury had not yet taken a honeymoon. An undated photo shows the couple smiling, brimming with excitement for the opportunities their windfall presents.

With their newfound wealth, the couple plans to finally embark on their long-awaited honeymoon, likely choosing Greece as their destination. In addition to their travel plans, they also aim to purchase a house and a new car.

“We’re just still in shock and disbelief,” Matthews expressed. “It does not seem real.”

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) noted that six top prizes of $3 million are still available to be won on the $30 Platinum ticket, which boasts a combined total of $250 million in prizes.
