Following a cold and snowy Christmas, southern Quebec is poised to experience a rise in temperatures as the new year approaches. Environment Canada has reported that a significant weather system coming from the southern United States is expected to bring freezing rain or drizzle to the St. Lawrence Valley starting Saturday evening. As the climate warms, the Montreal area is predicted to receive rain and snowmelt from Sunday through Monday. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to potentially icy and slippery roads throughout the weekend.
During the Christmas period, temperatures in Montreal dropped as low as -17°C. However, forecasts indicate a warming trend with temperatures climbing to 8°C by Monday and 4°C on New Year’s Eve. Additionally, a smog warning has been issued for Montreal Island, with high pollutant levels resulting in poor air quality.
