A substantial financial boost of one million dollars was gifted to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston by the County of Simcoe on Tuesday, marking the first payment in a ten million dollar pledge towards the hospital’s ambitious redevelopment project.
The state-of-the-art blueprint of the redeveloped building reveals plans for an impressive 152,000-square-foot facility. It will house a slew of vital features including a brand new emergency department, a dedicated pharmacy, a high-tech surgical suite, and a modern birthing unit, all catered to better serve the community.
Although the launch of construction is slated for the year 2025, an air of anticipation and optimism already permeates the community. Local dignitaries have hailed this progression as deeply significant, considering the region’s burgeoning population.
Basil Clarke, the current Warden of the County of Simcoe, jubilantly declared this moment as a milestone, alluding to the hospital’s rich history. He reflected on the growth from serving 7,000 patients a year at its inception, to its present capacity of handling 40,000 patients, thus emphasizing the necessity of this expansion.
Equally excited about the initiative is Jody Levac, the President and CEO of Stevenson Memorial Hospital. He commented on how the hospital’s growth and the increasing needs of the community make it crucial to expand and modernize healthcare services. Overlooking the preliminary construction works, he mentioned the preparations underway, such as the deforestation of sites, establishing parking lots, and connecting water and sewer lines, all adhering to the construction schedule for 2025.
The rebuilding phase is projected to span between 16 to 24 months, provoking a sense of anticipation as the community looks towards a future with more modern and efficient healthcare services. The dawn of this new development marks a crucial step forward for Alliston and the County of Simcoe.
