Monday afternoon, shoppers were fleeing for their safety in a busy mall in Metro Vancouver after a shooting that left a man critically injured.
The incident occurred in Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley at around 3:30 p.m. When the police arrived, the man was suffering from gunshot wounds. Police have yet to release the detail of the victim or the motive of the shooting.
However, Langley RCMP Captain said that the investigation theory used indicates that the incident was not a random act. A witness inside the mall described a troubling moment after the shot was fired.
A daughter and father in the mall recounted the time they were taken to the storeroom.
“Everyone was duckling and hurrying to the back of the store. There was this husband and wife with their young son behind us, and the wife was crying.”
The police eventually arrived and asked the shoppers that the threat was over. But they were still unease going out of the store. When they were finally out, everyone hurried to their cars.
Langley RCMP said that the area surrounding the mall remain under surveillance for a while. No other detail was released. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to hand it over. RCMP promised that their identity would remain anonymous.
