PINK OCTOBER 2020: TOGETHER FOR BREAST HEALTH

International Breast Cancer Awareness Month officially starts on October 1! With the healthcare system under great strain from the pandemic, people affected by breast cancer need support now more than ever. The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation is proud to unveil its Pink October programming, which will foster awareness of the impact of breast cancer and encourage people to pay special attention to their breast health, as this disease still affects too many women and men each year.

Some statistics:

• One in eight women will have breast cancer in her lifetime.

• Among women aged 20–49, 18% of diagnosed cancers are breast cancers.

• In Canada, approximately 210 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and 60 will die from it.

Let Your Light Shine!

A new awareness campaign Throughout October, the Foundation invites you to join in its new Let Your Light Shine! campaign. Get your pink light bulb and let it shine bright from your front porch as a show of your support for those affected by breast cancer and their loved ones. The light bulbs will be sold for $6.99 at participating Jean Coutu pharmacies and Parkland (Ultramar) gas stations across Quebec. All proceeds will be donated to the Foundation.

Information and education Information and education about breast health is central to the Foundation’s mission.

Throughout the month of October, you are invited to follow the Foundation on Facebook (@fondationcancerduseinduquébec) and receive its newsletter for a wealth of information on topics such as:

• Signs and symptoms of breast cancer

• Clarifying metastatic breast cancer

• Current breast cancer issues

• The tangible ways the Foundation helps people affected by breast cancer and their loved ones The Breast Health Forum Join us for a virtual rendez-vous on October 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.!

The Foundation’s Breast Health Forum is back for a fourth edition, with a new formula that is 100% virtual and free of charge. More than a dozen researchers, doctors and mental health specialists will be offering conferences on current breast cancer topics.
