In a notable development within the Jolie-Pitt family, one of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children has officially dropped “Pitt” from her name. A Los Angeles court granted a petition from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, the third-eldest child of the former couple, to legally change her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. The court’s decision was made on Monday, following Shiloh’s initial filing on May 27, which coincided with her 18th birthday.
Reports indicate that other Jolie-Pitt children have informally excluded Pitt from their names, but Shiloh is the first to have taken legal action. Notably, their daughter Vivienne was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in a Broadway program for “The Outsiders.” Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share four other children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and Knox.
Angelina Jolie herself underwent a similar name change in 2002 to legally drop her father Jon Voight’s surname after their relationship deteriorated. This family, well-known in the public eye, has been through various legal and personal struggles. Jolie and Pitt were romantic partners for a decade before marrying in 2014. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, with a judge declaring them single in 2019, yet custody and financial issues remain unresolved in their ongoing divorce case.
In addition to their personal disputes, the actors have also engaged in legal battles over their shared business ventures and property, including a winery in France. In 2022, Angelina Jolie claimed in a court filing that during a 2016 flight, Brad Pitt grabbed her by the head, shook her, choked one of their children, and struck another when they tried to intervene.
Requests for comment from Shiloh’s representatives have not been returned. The celebrity website TMZ first reported the news of the granted petition.
