As the teachers’ strike continues in Quebec, several school boards on Wednesday announced that they would proceed with online learning. The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) said that the strike would begin on Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m., and teachers will resume their regular duties.
The EMSB further added that the strike would only affect the services provided directly to the students. While the boards continue to evaluate the effects of closing schools, the idea of offering virtual learning to all students has been proposed.
As long as the strike continues, the EMSB said that no transportation services will be offered. The online learning program will include adult education, vocational learning in elementary and high schools.
The Riverside School Board said that all elementary and high school students would proceed with online learning. However, the vocational classes at Riverside’s adult education will continue as usual.
For the New Frontiers School Board, a hybrid plan will be implemented where elementary school students at Chateauguay will 90 minutes delay for the start time while the valley school will be delayed for two hours. High school students will engage in online learning. For adult education, it will depend on the program.
Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers says that the strike will affect 73, 00 teachers. Currently, negotiations are ongoing whereby the government is being asked to improve the teachers’ working conditions.
