The City of Pointe-Claire, is happy to announce the launch of the second summer awareness campaign to reduce speeds on Pointe-Claire streets for the safety of all, whether you are a driver, cyclist or pedestrian.

“This positive and friendly awareness campaign demonstrates our shared concern: to behave courteously and respectfully toward others, on both roads and sidewalks,” explains Mayor Trudeau.

“We will be putting up posters on private and public property focusing on the speed limit and why it’s a good thing to obey it,” says the mayor. “The posters encourage people to be careful and behave well on the streets. On a voluntary basis, residents can become ambassadors for the campaign by displaying a poster in front of their homes. The message will be directed primarily at drivers to encourage them to pay attention to their speed.”

Entitled “Slower is safer”, the campaign focuses on making drivers aware of their speed and reminding them of the speed limit. It is also hoped that it will encourage people to discuss the issue at home and with neighbours and friends.

Throughout the summer, speed display signs will also be installed in strategic locations around the city to remind drivers to obey the established speed limits.

“By focusing on good behaviour and raising awareness in a friendly way, we want to enhance the safety of our community,” concludes Mayor Trudeau. “The goal is to promote civic-mindedness and improve quality of life.”
