Schwarzenegger Reveals Affair’s Impact on Family, Maintains Love for Ex-Wife Shriver

Arnold Schwarzenegger, famed bodybuilder, action hero, and former California governor, has broken his silence on the affair that ultimately ended his marriage. In a candid conversation with People magazine, he declared his relationship with the family’s housekeeper Mildred Baena as the critical misstep that led to the downfall of his marriage to Maria Shriver in 2011. His candor was revealing, “Remember it’s not like we had a feud,” he said. “We didn’t have a fight.”

Schwarzenegger’s clandestine relationship with Baena led to a child, Joseph, who was born merely days after Schwarzenegger’s son Christopher with Shriver. Despite the heartbreak and betrayal that led to his separation from Shriver, a journalist and a member of the famed Kennedy dynasty, Schwarzenegger continues to harbor affection for his former wife.

“My chapter with Maria will continue on forever,” he shared. “Even though it’s a different relationship, there’s no reason for me to feel anything other than love for her.” With the past behind them, Schwarzenegger and Shriver, who officially divorced in 2021, continue to share parental responsibilities for their daughters Katherine, 33, Christina, 32, and sons Patrick, 30, and Christopher, 26.

The couple prioritized their children amid the marital tumult. Schwarzenegger emphasized that they made it a point not to let their children suffer due to the circumstances. And beyond their children’s upbringing, he maintains cordial communication with Shriver regarding holidays, birthday parties, and other familial occasions. The renowned actor has been with physical therapist Heather Milligan since 2013.

Regarding Joseph, sources have indicated that he has not been fully accepted by his half-siblings. “Arnold has always treated Joseph] like all his other kids — very fairly. But for whatever reason, the other kids take the affair] out on Joe,” a source revealed.

In the Netflix documentary series titled ‘Arnold’, it was unveiled that Shriver learned about Schwarzenegger’s infidelity during a marriage counseling session in 2011. The icon disclosed the vulnerability of his heart-stopping moment when the truth emerged. “Maria] wants to know if you’re the father of Joseph”, he eerily recalls the counselor asking. Their marriage crumbled that very year, but the absence of a prenuptial agreement led to a sluggish legal divorce, which was finalised solely in 2021.
