Schools In Behchokǫ̀, Yellowknife, Ndilǫ, And Dettah Closed Because Of The COVID-19 Outbreak

Because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak that happened in the territory, Northwestern Territory Health Officials have ordered all schools in Yellowknife, Ndilǫ and Dettah to close until further notice. The decision for this course of action was made on Sunday.

Health officials decided to close these sites because of the recent outbreak that happened in N.J. Macpherson School in Yellowknife.

Northwest Territories Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Kami Kandola stated that over 1,000 people have been in contact with those affected by the outbreak in N.J. Macpherson School in Yellowknife.

On Sunday six new cases were reported while on Monday eight more people were infected. Regular testing and new restrictions have started in schools and communities affected by the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

Dr. Kandola said:

“The closures are out of concern that student and staff from Behchokǫ̀ had attended group events in Yellowknife over the weekend, such as a multi-school soccer tournament.”

NWT Health officials are warning people that they should be careful and follow the COVID-19 rules and regulations.

Dr. Kandola concluded:

“Please pay close attention to the required actions if you or any of your household members were at the following locations during the following times.”
