American Bettors’ Voice (ABV), a recently established wagering advocacy group, announced today the addition of Dr. Harry Crane, a prestigious Rutgers University professor, to its advisory board. Dr. Crane is renowned in the realm of sports wagering for his extensive research on betting exchanges, prediction markets, and sports analytics.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Chicago, Crane’s background is robust in statistical analysis, which enhances his noteworthy contributions to the field. According to ABV’s statement, Crane is not only a Professor of Statistics and Affiliated Faculty in the Graduate Program in Philosophy at Rutgers University but has also held positions such as Visiting Scholar in Mathematics at the University of California at Berkeley, Fellow at the London Mathematical Institute, and Research Associate at the RAND Corporation.
Crane’s expertise comes at a critical time when sports bettors face significant regulatory challenges and an overwhelming influx of data, which can complicate their betting strategies and overall enjoyment. ABV trusts that Crane’s insights will help the organization navigate these complexities, enabling them to cut through the noise and provide a clearer understanding of the evolving US sports wagering landscape.
As the seventh member of the ABV advisory board, Crane’s credentials solidify his role as an essential asset to the group. He is the author of “Probabilistic Foundations of Statistical Network Analysis,” a seminal text on modern statistical methods, and is lauded for his research in political prediction markets. His knack for utilizing pricing data from Predictit to make electoral predictions often proves more accurate than traditional polling methods.
Crane is also a co-founder of Researchers. One, a decentralized peer review platform for academic research, and contributes to Analytics.Bet, an online series designed to bolster sports bettors’ analytical acumen.
American Bettors’ Voice, co-founded earlier this year by celebrated professional sports bettors Gadoon “Spanky” Kryollos and Billy Walters along with gaming industry veteran Richard Scheutz, who has over forty years of experience in the casino industry, aims to tackle several key issues within the industry. These include combating operators’ tendencies to limit successful bettors, advocating for clearer terms and conditions policies, and pushing for quicker payment times.
The advocacy group critiques the opaque nature of legislative and operational approaches to sports betting regulation, arguing that many states’ frameworks have been implemented without sufficient transparency or consideration for sustainability. According to the group’s website, the current model, which often disregards the preferences and needs of sports bettors, may undermine the very objectives of legalizing betting.
