Two workers at Las Vegas’ Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa were critically injured early Saturday after being slashed by a solitary assailant. The attacker was subsequently shot by Red Rock security guards, according to reports.
The victims were rushed to University Medical Center (UMC) for treatment of life-threatening wounds. The suspect, also injured, was taken to the same hospital for emergency care. As of Saturday morning, all three individuals were believed to be alive, though details of their injuries were not disclosed.
A witness who remained at the casino after a concert described the chaotic scene, stating, “Security ran by not far from me chasing someone, and then you heard the shot fired. People scattered everywhere. I dove behind a machine. Whoever was shot was down near the entrance to Lucky Penny.”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) received reports of the violent incident shortly after 1 a.m. Multiple officers responded to the scene, which appeared to be an isolated incident posing no risk to the public. Consequently, the casino remained open.
Police are expected to review surveillance footage and are in the process of collecting witness statements and physical evidence. The motive behind the stabbing remains unclear, and it’s unknown whether a knife or another weapon was used. The identities of the suspect and the two employees have not been released.
In a separate incident, gunfire erupted in Downtown Las Vegas early Saturday morning near Fremont and Main streets. A fight between two groups was observed around 5 a.m., though no injuries were reported. The incident took place in the 100 block of Fremont Street, an area close to Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue, and near the Fremont Street Experience. Several suspects were apprehended, but their names and the charges against them have not been disclosed. The LVMPD continues to investigate the altercation.
