The World Series captivated its largest audience in five years on Tuesday night as the New York Yankees staved off a sweep with an 11-4 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Nielsen, the Game 4 match-up averaged 16.28 million viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming platforms. This marked the highest viewership for a Fall Classic game since the Washington Nationals clinched victory over the Houston Astros in Game 7 of 2019, which attracted 23.22 million viewers.
Furthermore, it became the most-watched Game 4 since the 2016 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians, which drew 16.71 million viewers. Fox is optimistic for a similar surge in viewership for Wednesday night’s Game 5, reminiscent of the 2016 increase when the audience grew by seven million to 23.64 million.
Tuesday’s telecast saw its viewership peak at 18.22 million from 10:00 to 10:15 p.m. EDT, a significant 92% increase from last year’s Game 4 between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks, which garnered 8.48 million viewers. Over the first four games, this year’s World Series is averaging 14.98 million viewers, the highest in seven years.
The game posted a 19.7 rating and a 54 share in Los Angeles, while New York registered a 12.8 rating and a 33 share. The rating indicates the percentage of television households tuned into the broadcast, while the share reflects the percentage of the audience watching at that particular time.
