In Quebec, Germain Lemay, a 30-year-old resident, has been officially indicted for perilous threats aimed at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier François Legault, among other distinct criminal charges.
The incident leading to his arrest is currently under strict scrutiny from police watchdog institutions. This follows an encounter that escalated and resulted in Lemay being shot by the authorities in the early dawn of the 27th of September at his residence in Scotstown, Que., situated in the Eastern Townships.
The Crown’s legal representatives in Quebec have publicly confirmed that Lemay now faces the solemn charges of dangerous threats against the duo of elected authorities. Additionally, he is accused of intimidating to massacre or injure a law enforcement officer. The prosecution contends that Lemay threatened to detonate a provincial workplace safety board office.
Included also in his charges is the menacing threat to assault or murder an officer of the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST).
Lemay’s indictments extend to violations of the firearms act, with accusations of stockpiling weapons illegally. A week ago, he faced charges for the possession of a firearm with a dangerous intent.
The Crown has indicated its intention to counteract any attempts for his bail, consequently, Mr. Lemay presently awaits his bail hearing from within the confines of a jail cell, with the date yet to be confirmed.
The BEI, Quebec’s police watchdog, recounted how Lemay reportedly brandished a firearm at a law enforcement officer executing his arrest over the allegations of threats against Trudeau and Legault. This culminated in him being shot and injured during the process.
While this case proceeds, a further investigation into the shooting is currently being carried out by the Montreal police force.
