Message from Lester B Pearson Continuing Education
“Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, more and more companies are looking to hire private security guards to monitor visitors and ensure that all safety and health controls are followed. Private security guards provide an essential service to businesses as they reopen.
In order to work as a private security guard in Quebec, you need to successfully complete a 70-hour training. Completing this training allows you to apply for a private security guard card from the Bureau de la Sécurity Privé (BSP).
The Business Solutions Team, a unit of the Lester B. Pearson School Board, offers the Private Security Guard training, in English. For the first time, the training is being offered online, starting on June 1. Taught by industry professionals, the course uses an interactive platform to give participants timely and effective feedback on their progress.
The course is broken down as follows:
- 54 hours of online training includes:
- Environment, functions, legislation and standards of conduct (30 hours – online)
- Emergency Procedures (24 hours – online)
- First Aid in the Workplace, recognized by the CNESST (12 hours – online; 4 hours in person)
