Starting this fall, travelers seeking refuge from Ottawa’s harsh and snowy winters can avail direct flights to two coveted locales in sunny Florida. Porter Airlines has shared its intention to initiate an everyday service straight from Ottawa International Airport to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, with operations set to commence in November.
The launch is a welcome move for Ottawa-Gatineau inhabitants, many of whom frequent Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. The direct, non-stop service will cater particularly to winter-weary snowbirds, or families journeying to Florida’s numerous attractions such as the famed Magic Kingdom. The new service aims to make the migration to the balmy climates, sunny beaches, and festive attractions of Florida considerably more comfortable this winter season.
The novel service will be facilitated through Porter’s brand-new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, set to touch base in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale every day. The inaugural Ottawa-Orlando trip is slated to launch on November 21, departing Ottawa at a daily-regular 5:30 p.m., and making its descent in Orlando by 8:59 p.m. The return flight will also be a staple daily, lifting off from Orlando International Airport each day at 4 p.m., and making its landing in the Canadian capital at 7:02 p.m.
The Ottawa-Fort Lauderdale service, set to be rolled out on November 30, will take wing from Ottawa every day at 4:45 p.m., and make its touchdown in Fort Lauderdale at 8:32 p.m. Equally consistent will be the Ottawa-bound flights from Lauderdale, taking to the skies daily at 4:30 p.m., and touching down in the capital by 7:49 p.m.
Remarkably, Porter is also expanding its realms at the Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, with new daily services in motion to the Floridian cities of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. This initiative positions Porter Airlines at the forefront in offering seamless air travel services for Canadians wishing to explore the Sunshine State.
